Murad Acne Complex Kit Review

October 19, 2014

The Murad Acne Complex Kit gets fairly good consumer reviews. I gave it it try on my adult acne with mixed results. I really like the acne spot treatment and the overall exfoliating acne treatment gel, both of which have some of my favorite acne treatment ingredients. But I could take or leave the cleanser and lotion in the kit.

The kit contains the following:

Acne Spot Treatment: The Murad acne spot treatment contains 10% sulfur. Sulfur is one of my favorite sport treatment ingredients-it is a good antibacterial agent that doesn’t overly dry out the skin. Ten percent is also a good amount of the active ingredient. Many over the counter sulfur products stop at 5%. Any sulfur product will have a sulfuric odor, so be prepared for that. I liked Murad’s spot treatment quite a bit, especially for daytime use. However, at night, I tend to prefer to use a sulfur mask as spot treatment. For that, DDF makes a nice one  you can read my previous review of that here on Beauty and Fashion Tech DDF Sulfur Mask Review.

Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel: Murad’s treatment gel is meant for daily wear over larger areas and contains Retinol, Glycolic Acid, and Salicylic Acid, which is a rather nice ingredient mix. I found the gel to be light, no-drying, and non-irritating. It is a nice product that I would consider buying separately for continues use.

Clarifying Cleanser: the Murad cleanser is a basic cleanser with Salicylic Acid for exfoliation. My experience was that it was slightly drying, but generally I was happy with it However, I have other cleansers that prefer, so while I’ll happily use up the tube that came with the kit, I likely wouldn’t repurchase it.

Skin Perfecting Lotion: the skin perfecting lotion is a daily moisturizer that contains Retinol. with Retinol already present in the treatment With that said, I also don’t think the concentration is particularly high, so those who like a good does of Retinol might appreciate the doubling up among the products. For some, especially those with adult acne, Retinol can work rather well.

Overall, i was happy with the kit and recommend it.  For those wishing to purchase only treatment items, I definitely recommend the treatment gel and acne spot treatment.
