With more than 4 billion people living in urban cities today, you can expect the rise of tiny housing to continue.

If you live in one, there are lots of ways you can make your rooms feel bigger. This way, you can still carry out your day-to-day activities without compromising on functionality.

If you’re tired of sacrificing comfort and style because of your small apartment or tiny home, read on for five ways you can make your space big.

  1. Go for Multi-Functional Furniture

Traditional furniture doesn’t suit small apartments. You should invest in multifunctional storage pieces instead to help maximize space. For example, you could buy an ottoman, which will serve as a storage and seating unit.

You could also replace your traditional bed with a bed with in-built storage or even day beds which transform from a sofa to mini-bed. All these different furniture pieces can give you extra space to accommodate guests and help maximize functionality in your compact home.

  1. Choose Creative Partitioning

Another way you can make your little space feel bigger is by eliminating permanent partitions wherever you can. Too many doors and walls make it difficult to position furniture around the rooms. With that said, switch to fabric roll-up curtains or folding doors and leave doors only for the bathrooms and bedrooms.

Thus, you can still get have privacy while making your home more spacious. You can find apartments with open layout settings online.

  1. Decorate With Light Colors

White colors can help expand your room, but you don’t have to make everything white. Choose off-white like China White or Dove White to add a little bit of life in the room. Paint it on the walls and trims and then add few accents of colors in specific corners of the room.

For the ceiling, you can paint it pure white so that it gives contrast to the wall color and allow for the room to appear bigger.

  1. Go for Less Artwork

Visual clutter can also kill your sense of space. Rather than filling up your walls with tons of small art pieces, buy one large canvas frame and place it in the blank space. Such expansive art makes the walls seem like they’re pushing outward, creating an illusion of more space.

  1. Buy Streamlined Furniture

Avoid all large furnishings with awkward shapes and dark colors. Dark furniture absorbs light, which makes the room feel even smaller than it already is. Opt for small space furniture with light colors instead so that your room doesn’t appear overwhelmed by furniture.

Make Space in Your Small Apartment

There you have it; a few good ways to maximize space in your small apartment. Make sure to follow the tips above so that you don’t feel like you’re in a confined space.
