7 Steps in Contouring and Highlighting

August 26, 2014

Contouring and Highlighting Tutorial

Not everyone was blessed with high cheekbones and deep set eyes, but luckily we can still make it appear like we were born with excellent bone structure, thanks to the power of makeup. In this blog post, we will be discussing the 7 simple steps on how to apply contour makeup like a pro.

Step one is to start with a good canvas — a clean and hydrated skin. You need to make sure that your skin is cleansed and you have applied your favorite moisturizer. Choose a moisturizer that suits your skin type. Let your skin rest for a good five minutes before applying makeup.

Step two is to prepare your tools. You need to choose the right angled or contour brush for your makeup.

Step three is to choose a foundation that matches your skin tone. If you want light coverage, you can use a CC cream. If you want moderate coverage, use a BB cream. For evening looks that require full coverage, it is best to use a high-definition foundation.

Step four is to apply concealer on areas that have discoloration. This creates a smooth and flawless finish on your face.

Step five is to apply the powder. Load your powder brush with the powder and gently remove the excess by lightly shaking it. Using the contour brush of your choice, lightly brush the key areas in an upward motion. The goal is to create a shadow for the illusion of deeper and more prominent facial features. Accentuate your cheekbones, make your forehead look smaller, make your nose more shapely and make your jawline more chiseled.

Step six is to blend everything and apply highlighter, most especially at the tip of your nose, under your eyes and on the apples of your cheek bones.

Step seven is to finish the look. Blend, set and apply the eyeshadow and lipstick of your choice.
