Toxic Lipstick? Lead in the Red?

Recently, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics tested 33 red lipsticks and found that 1/3 of them contained more lead than the FDA limit for candy. The FDA is now investigating.

But before you get freaked out and start tossing out lipstick, consider the following: People eat candy–a lot of it. So slightly exceeding the amount allowed for a single piece of candy in a tube of lipstick is not as bad as it sounds. For more on that, see this Snopes article.

With that said. If you are concerned, don’t go putting red lipstick on your kids (actually, please don’t do this anyway), and don’t wear it if pregnant.
