The Best Lipstick For Fall

Fall is here. I’m not really ready for winter to come after it, but I am ready for fall makeup shades. I have had enough of the pinks and corals of summer and want to move into the red, deep berry, and purple lips and the smoky gray and plum eye shadows of fall. I also can’t wait to get back into deep purple nail polish!

The best fall lipsticks are those that have deep rich hues. If you are not a fan of a lot of color, go for muted mauves and sheer berry. If you like color, but want to stay classic, cranberry red and deep berry tones are always good. Feeling brave? Try a bold purple!  Below are a few of the best fall lipstick items.

YSL Lipstick

Yves Saint Laurent ‘Rouge Volupté Pearl’ Lipstick iconin Insolent Beige (pictured) or Mesmerizing Purple will give your lips a deep fall hue. YSL Rouge Volupte can be worn sheer if applied lightly or can be dense and dark if applied with a heavier hand. It also is truly amazing in terms of feel and is one of my top recommended luxury lipsticks.

MAC Fabulous Feline Lip Glass

The Lap of Luxury Lip Glass from the M·A·C Fabulous Felines Palace Pedigreed Collection is a rich purple gloss that can be worn alone or over a light or deep lipstick shade for a unique and bold fall look.

YSL Rouge Volupte Sensual Radiant Lipstick

A reader recently asked me what the best pigmented and moisturizing lipstick was and my answer was Yves Saint Laurent ROUGE VOLUPTÉSilky Sensual Radiant Lipstick SPF 15.  The YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick line is packed full of pigment, yet the YSL lipsticks are comfortable to wear. Needless to say, they also last very well.  Furthermore, YSL packaging is always gorgeous!

P218426_hero Most of the YSL lipstick shades are not for someone who is shy about lip color. For the most part, they are bright and vibrant. They also pack in pigment, so there is nothing sheer or mild about them! With that said, you actually can wear most YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick on them on the sheer side by being careful with the application. Then build them up for more color punch.

For the neutral shade lover like me, finding a YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick that isn’t too intimidating can be difficult, but I like several of them.  Below are YSL Lipstick swatches of my four favorite shades. From left to right:  Nude Beige, Spicy Pink, Opera Rose, Exquisite Plum. Opera Rose is new—it is part of the 2010 YSL spring collection.

YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick is pricey, but it ranks among the best there is. If you find a shade that you like, it is well worth it. Plus, every girl needs a luxury lippie or two (or three, or four, or more….)
