Whole Foods Organic Tangerine Lip Balm
I picked up a Whole Foods Market Organic Tangerine lip balm on a whim. What can I say? I’m a sucker for orange flavor and I tend to fall for in store marketing! So,I have yet another lip balm added to my massive collection, and it is a good one!
The texture is fairly buttery, which I prefer over oily. I like my balms to have some thickness to them, with waxy for outdoors and buttery for regular wear. Ingredients are coconut oil, beeswax, extra virgin olive oil, shea butter, tangerine essential oil, cocoa butter, orange essential oil, hemp seed oil, and vitamin E. All are organic.
The balm is lightly scented and flavored. It also was quite affordable at $1.99. Usually I complain that Whole Foods is overpriced, but this one is a good value.
The pic isn’t the greatest (taken with the iphone, sorry). But it looks like a standard lip balm–nobody is likely going to buy this one for its packaging appearance!

Intelligent Nutrients Organic Lip Balm
Somewhere along the way, I picked up an Intelligent Nutrients organic lip balm. I’m guessing that I got it at Ulta, although it might have been sent to me from a company representative and I forgot to write it down. Anyway, this big, fat balm is on the lighter/oily side, so it moisturizes quite well, and gives the lips a bit of nice glossy look, but I tend to find myself reapplying it more often since it isn’t as waxy. Here is the company information on the balm:
“Our super-antioxidant Intellimune® Seed Oil Complex—an anti-aging, synergistic blend of black cumin, pumpkin, red grape, red raspberry and cranberry seed oils—comprises 20% of the total composition of our lip balm. The other nutritious food ingredients are coconut, sunflower seed, castor seed and palm kernel oils. Lip Delivery Nutrition® — providing nutrition and antioxidants both externally and internally every time you lick your lips.”
I’m not really buying that internal nutrition line, but I do like the ingredient list. If you like lighter balms and are looking for certified organic products, Intelligent Nutrients Lip Delivery Nutrition may be of interest to you.

Softlips Pure Pomegranate and Honeydew
Softlips has a new 100% natural and 95% organic lip balm, Softlips Pure. It is comes in two wonderful flavors: Pomegranate and Honeydew.
Softlips balms are thin balms that are rather light in consistency. That means that they do not feel heavy on the lips and a generally quite smooth. Light balms, however, don’t tend to last quite as long as the heavier and waxier balms, so there is a trade off. I tend to like heavy balms at night and outdoors and light balms during the day.
Here are the ingredients in Softlips Pure (starred items are organic):
cocos nucifera (coconut) oil*, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil*, beeswax*, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil*, flavor, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter)*, punica granatum (pomegranate) extract*, tocopherol [vitamin E]
I like the addition of olive oil to the balm and sha butter is always a good choice. The balms feel quite nice and do a decent job of conditioning. Mostly though I love the new flavors. Pomegranate and melon are two of my favorites in lip products (my others being orange and grapefruit flavors). The scent/flavor is light—just enough to be enjoyable, without overwhelming.
Look for Softlips Pure at drugstores and big box retailers. Also watch here later this week for a contest to win a set of softlips balms!

Kiss My Face Organic Lip Balm
Kiss My Face makes a wide range of organic bath and body products, including one of my absolute favorite lip balms.
Kiss My Face Certified Organic Lip Balm, SPF 15, Cranberry Orange is perfect for me in several ways:
- It has SPF 15, so I can use it outside. I’m a stickler for always having sunscreen on my lips!
- It is organic, which while not essential to me, I certainly do not complain about.
- It is medium in texture, so it isn’t too heavy/waxy but also not too light/oily.
- It tastes and smells great!
Here are the ingredients. I find the addition of titanium dioxide as one of the sunscreens particularly nice because that one won’t degrade in sunlight and provides full spectrum protection:
Active Ingredients (sunscreens): Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Benzophenone 3, Titanium Dioxide
Inactive Ingredients: Canola Oil (Certified Organic), Bees Wax (Certified Organic), Lecithin, Coconut Oil (Certified Organic), Royal Jelly, Propolis, Aloe Vera (Certified Organic), L Lysine, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Fruit Flavors (100% Natural)
My only complaint is that it doesn’t last quite as long as I think it could, although without making it waxier, that might be difficult.
Kiss My Face products are often available at natural food markets and health food stores. I have also seen them in some larger cosmetic stores and aisles. You can also comparison shop for Kiss My Face products on Bizrate/Shopzilla.
