Lancome Pixel Pink is the newest entry in the company’s limited edition Pout-a Porter line, made for the Fashion Week runway in conjunction with makeup artist Gucci Westman. This year’s shade was designed in collaboration with designer Thakoon.
Last year’s shade, Proenza Pink (Read Review), was a virtually un-wearable shade for the average woman. Yet people scooped it up. This year, the shade was a great improvement, and while it was sold out for awhile, it recently became available again on the Lancome site.
I purchased a tube with a bit of trepidation. The picture of the full tube on the site (and here), looked like a shade I would like, but the little swatch picture by the order box looked way too much like last year’s nasty pale version. But I had seen pictures of people wearing Pixel Pink and it looked nice.
Well, it arrived, and I still have mixed feelings. The color is something in between the photos, but definitely more pink than the rose shade in the full tube photo. While it looks OK on me, it isn’t wonderful, and I can wear quite a few shades rather well. Yet, I don’t hate it. It is a very sheer shade that feels good on the lips, and I think that with some lightly tinted gloss over it, I can make it work for me.
The shade is also certainly distinctive. With any given product, I can usually point to a similar shade in another brand. But this one does stand out. So those in the know will likely recognize it when you are wearing it. It also is wearable for many more people than last year’s version, just maybe not me.
Also of more interest to me was the Pixel Pink You Tube video below. It was filmed backstage at Fashion Week with Thakoon.
