Almay Line Smoothing Makeup

This is a reader review of Almay Line Smoothing Makeup.

I’ve been a fan of Almay foundation for several years. Not too long ago, the company stopped selling a precise product that I really liked, and I briefly attempted to make a switch to another brand. Within a few days, I was back at the store and back with Almay. No one else seems to make liquid foundation that works better for my face and complexion.

Almay Line Smoothing Makeup

The product I’m currently using is Almay Line Smoothing makeup. It’s a liquid base foundation that comes in a 1 oz. bottle with a screw top lip. Unlike many liquid foundations that can be too thin or too thick, Almay Line Smoothing seems to have the perfect consistency. I usually have to shake the bottle a bit against my palm to get some of it out. Once I’ve poured some onto my palm, I use a fingertip to smooth it onto my face. It glides on smoothly and blends so easily. I never feel like I’ve got too heavy a layer or that it’s going to wear off too soon.

Although this foundation could definitely be used for fairly complete coverage, I tend to use it most for problem skin areas. I have splotchy red complexion areas in my t-zone, around my nose and especially my cheeks. I blend the makeup over those problem areas and am amazed at how well it works to even out my uneven skin tone. Now that I am in my forties, I also struggle with some dry sky patches on my face. This makeup never makes my skin feel dry. Almay claims that it helps to hydrate skin. It lists “replenishing hydrators and refreshing cucumber” on the bottle. It also provides SPF 15 sun protection.

Almay Line Smoothing makeup is hypoallergenic. It washes off easily with warm water and facial cleanser or soap, and has never clogged my pores.
Almay products are readily available at many stores. You can find this liquid foundation in many places. The price is reasonable, especially if you use it more for problem areas than overall coverage.

The Right Way to Apply Foundation

Applying foundation is an essential part of a lady’s beauty regimen. Cosmetic foundation acts as a crucial base for a good makeup application and also serves to cover up skin problems. Improperly applied foundation can result in a mask-like appearance, which is due to the incorrect blending of foundation with one’s skin color. Applying thick layers of foundation is also not recommended, since this leads to an unnatural look.

how to apply foundation

When properly applied, foundation completely conceals skin imperfections and ensures prolonged makeup wear throughout a woman’s busy day. There are also good cosmetic applicators available in the market today, such as the ecotools foundation brush, which helps women apply makeup better. Beauty experts also recommend that ladies need only to focus and spot-fix uneven skin areas to achieve a smooth and flawless look. With a little practice and patience, anyone can use foundation to create a smooth and natural look.

Here are the best practices to ensure a well-applied foundation every woman desires:

Prepare the face

The face should first be thoroughly washed with clean water and pat-dried with an absorbent towel. The face should then be moisturized using a preferred moisturizer so the skin won’t look dry and rough once the foundation is applied. A good quality moisturizer will prevent the foundation from looking uneven and clumpy, allowing for a smooth and natural look.

Add primer and concealer

Beauty experts usually apply foundation primer first to achieve a smoother surface, which the foundation can cling on once applied. The primer also helps the foundation to last longer without reapplying occasionally. After putting on the primer, you can then use the concealer to hide dark circles and uneven areas so as to avoid applying excessive foundation on those areas eventually.

Start applying the foundation

The amount of foundation to be applied depends on the lightness or darkness of shade that you want to have. Most women prefer the lighter shade as it produces a more natural look.

1. Using a foundation brush, begin to apply the makeup starting off on the center of the face in order to blend the makeup properly as you move towards the outside portion of the face.

2. Make sure to use wider, downward strokes when applying foundation on certain parts like the forehead, nose and chin to avoid getting uneven makeup lines.

Manage the hard-to-reach areas

The hard-to-reach areas for most makeup artists are the sides of the nose, the corners of the mouth, the eyes plus the hairline. These areas are commonly disregarded and are usually left untouched when applying makeup. It is also where the makeup usually wears off.  In that case, one should make sure to properly cover these areas in order to avoid having that dreaded mask look.

Complete the look with powder

Most women are confused whether when to put the powder – before or after the foundation. Powder should always be applied ‘after the foundation’. This helps even out the foundation, minimizing the shine and also makes the foundation last longer.  Powder also decreases the need to reapply and retouch makeup every now and then.

By learning the basic rules and principles in applying foundation, one can truly look great and fabulous without spending too much money, or hiring the best makeup artist or stylist in town. Having good quality makeup and tools also helps achieve a smooth and natural look. With lots of readily-available resources and useful tools, achieving that Hollywood-like glow can be easy and fun. Learn, experiment, embrace change and enjoy!

Revlon Age Defying Botafirm Foundation Review

Below is a guest/reader review of Revlon Age Defying Botafirm Foundation for dry skin.

The best foundation I have found for dry skin and for my mature skin is Revlon Age Defying Foundation with Botafirm for dry skin. As a bonus, it also has a 15 SPF sunscreen to help to keep skin from looking aged. This is the only foundation I have found that I can use all year even in the extremely dry desert conditions that I am now living in.

Revlon Botafirm Review

I’ve found that this foundation does exactly what it claims it will do. It appears to help diminish fine lines and the beginning of wrinkles. I’m not sure exactly what Botafirm is but it does work really well for me. I have light to medium skin tone so I like to use the Natural Beige color, number 06, for most of the year. In summer however, I choose just a shade or so darker and switch to number 09 which is called Cool Beige. Once my arms and neck tan, I don’t want to be using a foundation that is too much lighter than any bit of color I’ve gotten from the sun because I feel that it wouldn’t look right.

With this foundation it isn’t necessary to switch the way I do, but I like switching shades according to how tan I’ve become during the summer. I use sunscreen, but naturally from living in the desert I do get some color even with the use of sunscreen. Changing foundation colors makes sense when you live in a climate that is very hot and sunny. When I lived in the Midwest I used just one color foundation all year.

After using a very good moisturizer on my face I apply Revlon Age Defying Foundation by putting dots on my cheeks, forehead, chin and nose and blend it using my fingertips. I’m sure a sponge or applicator could also be used, but this is the way I do it and it works well for me. I’ve used this foundation for years now and absolutely love it.
My skin tends to be on the sensitive side most of the time but I have never had any problems using this foundation. It seems to be gentle enough to use even on somewhat sensitive skin. I have never experienced any kind of burning, redness or any other signs of sensitivity.

I think Revlon Age Defying Foundation makes my face look younger and I get compliments all the time on how I couldn’t possibly be the age I am. I feel like I owe some of that to choosing a great foundation. Foundation is so important in makeup application that I would never go without it.
