Urban Decay Vice Palette Review

I first became hooked on Urban Decay products after receiving one of their palettes as a gift. I quickly became hooked on the quality of the products. I have tried many luxury and department store-quality eye shadow palettes in the past, but none have given me the high impact color and staying power that Urban Decay eyeshadows have to offer. I really fell in love with the Urban Decay products, however, after I purchased the Vice palette.

Urban Decay Vice Palette

Urban Decay’s Vice palette features 20 of the hottest shades, from the glittering copper tones of “Penny Lane” to the tranquil turquoise of “Unhinged” and the soft glittery peach of “Provocateur.” The shades can compliment each other or stand alone in a sweep of color.

Each of the shades delivers saturated color that blends easily with the other eyeshadows, making professional-quality eye effects a snap. Whether you prefer bold and bright effects or a soft accent of color, the Urban Decay Vice palette can offer what you need. Sweep on a lot of color for dramatic effects or add a soft layer for a subtle look.
Best of all, even those who tend to be heavy-handed with their eyeshadow will find that a little of the Urban Decay eyeshadow goes a long way. You do not need to load this eyeshadow onto your eyelids to achieve a bold effect. As a result, the Vice palette will last you for months or even years if you care to keep eye makeup for that long.

The Vice Palette is housed in a durable plum-colored plastic casing with a jewel-like “UD” logo on the front. The casing features a push-button closure so it will not snap open when handled or even when dropped. The lid contains a large, sturdy polished metal mirror so you can fix your makeup even on the go.

A soft-bristled, double-ended brush is included in the case. The brush is useful for adding a high-intensity burst of color but because the bristles are very soft and not angles, I found it difficult to create shading or contour effects with it. If your brushes are an important part of your makeup application or if you prefer a softer look, you may want to use your own brush rather than this one.
If you appreciate bold and metallic colors, the Vice palette may be all that you need. The twenty colors can be used to create countless effects and looks. However, the colors also blend well with shades from other Urban Decay palettes, such as the Smoked palette, or either of the Naked palettes.

The Urban Decay Vice palette is not inexpensive. You will not find this palette for drug store prices. However, the quality of the product and the uniqueness of the colors will more than make up for the cost.

Clinique Super Balm

I’m what you call a lip balm addict. I have tubes of the stuff in my purse, on various tables throughout the house, in the car, and on my nightstand. My problem is, I like to wear lipcolor, but it’s often drying. Thankfully, I found that Clinique’s Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss provides the best of both worlds – the emollient effects of a lip balm and the flattering coverage of a sheer gloss.

Clinqiue Super Balm

When I first put the gloss on, I noticed how smooth the texture was. Many of the cheaper drugstore brands are sticky, grainy, or gummy. Who wants to keep pulling their hair off their mouth because it keeps sticking to the lip gloss? I didn’t have this problem with Clinique. The texture of Superbalm stayed smooth on my lips and my hair stayed off the front of my face. For that reason alone, it’s worth the $15 price tag.

A second thing I noticed was how soft my lips stayed while wearing the gloss. Usually, I have to layer lip balm under whatever color I’m wearing, but this product contains moisturizing ingredients that kept my lips from drying out. Even after the gloss wore off, I noticed that my lips remained hydrated. It’s nice to know that I’m providing them with conditioning.

This product comes in several shades. My chosen color is Black Honey. It gives my lips a pretty stained look as though I ate a bowl of cherries. Best of all, the color stands out and lasts a while. The product gives a nice shine but doesn’t give you that plastic coating look.

Since high school, I’ve used the Clinique brand of products. I trust them for the consistent quality and their continued research in the cosmetic industry.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Eye Cream

This is a Reader/Guest post from Renee. Thanks Renee for the review!

I discovered The Body Shop Vitamin E Eye Cream when I started law school eight years ago. Let’s just say the long days that started early with classes and didn’t end until the library closed at 11PM did nothing for the skin around my eyes. I quickly developed dark circles and puffiness. Since I didn’t want to spend the next three years of my life looking like a raccoon, I scoured the stores for an eye cream that was effective, yet gentle and safe for contact lens wearers. This product was a winner.

Body Shop Vitamin E

My immediate draw to the eye cream was the overall feel of it. The cream is thick and loaded with vitamin E. Its non-greasy formula glides on smooth and absorbs quickly into the skin. I was able to put it on in the morning and then layer my sun protection and makeup over it minutes later. Best of all, I noticed that the dark circles beneath my eyes were lighter after the first application. After about a week of continued application both in the morning and before bed, the puffiness diminished as well.

Due to the cream’s high vitamin E content, the skin around my eyes was left moisturized and supple. This was a good thing, considering how all my squinting at those books could have caused crow’s feet! I also like how the product is made with mostly botanical ingredients. My skin tends to be sensitive to products containing a large number of harsh chemicals. This eye cream doesn’t contain those. The manufacturer, The Body Shop, prides itself on carrying products which list ingredients found in nature and have no animal testing.

The only downside to this product is that it doesn’t contain any age-fighting ingredients. If you are concerned about wrinkles or broken capillaries, then you may want to look for an eye cream specifically tailored to address those areas. Otherwise, Vitamin E Eye Cream is suitable for those with sensitive skin or are looking to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles.

It’s been five years since I’ve graduated law school, but this eye cream is still a class act for me. I’m thirty years old and I use it every day. For more information on this product, check it out here:  Vitamin E Eye Cream
