My Bobbi Brown Wishlist

When it comes to iconic cosmetic companies Bobbi Brown stands out. With a focus on natural and feminine shades, I already own a number of Bobbi Brown products and, at any given time, I have more on my radar. Here is a wish list of items that I am currently coveting.  These items are from Harrods which, if you are looking for Bobbi Brown UK items, is a great place to shop.

(1)  Caviar and Oyster Palette

I can’t tell you how many times I have almost ordered this. With four matte shadow shades and four shimmer shades, it is perfect for creating smoky eye looks or sparkling highlight looks for an evening out on the town or for parties. It comes paired with a shimmering highlighter for your cheeks to create a sparkling glow. The entire compact will also fit nicely in your purse. The shades are all universally flattering and versatile.

(2) Bobbi Brown BB Cream

I love BB creams, and Bobbi Brown reportedly has one of the best outside of the Asian companies. I been wanting to try it for some time and simply have not gotten around to it yet. If you have good skin, you can wear a BB cream alone. I like to use BB creams as a primer and put a tinted powder over it since I have some hyperpigmentation to hide. A good BB cream will act as a multi-tasker by providing coverage, skin care, and SPF protection all in one. The Bobbi Brown version offers SPF 35 protection.

(3) Uber Nude Lip and Eye Palette

This lip and eye palette is perfect for the neutral and nude shadow lover. That certainly includes me! It includes two lip shades, a shimmer gloss, and three matte shadows. It is great for everyday looks, while the shimmer lip items allow it to be dressed up a bit as well.

(4) Full Coverage Brush

I would love to try the Bobbi Brown full coverage brush and see how it compares to other similar brushes such as Urban Decay’s good karma optical blending brush. This type of brush has become popular for creating perfect foundation looks by stippling on the makeup and then buffing it. I have had great results with the UD brush and suspect that Bobbi Brown would make an even better one. Hopefully I will try it out at some point!

Holiday Party Makeup Looks

It’s that time of the year again when all of the holiday parties are starting. Before you know it, you’ll be heading over to Aunt Martha’s with a tray of sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving and cleaning up your own house for the Christmas crowd. While you’re certain to dazzle with your cooking and decorating skills, you’ll also want to be sure to look your best. Try out these makeup looks this holiday season.

Holiday Glamour

Old School Style

Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s are all about the traditions right? Bring some of that old school flavor into your makeup. Put on a red lipstick that complements your skin, and use plenty of glamorous black mascara on your eyes. With a dab of blush and a light colored eyeshadow, you’ll be looking like a woman right out of old Hollywood in no time.

Sweet & Simple

When there’s Yorkshire pudding, lasanga and seven fishes to prepare, you don’t always have tons of time to spend on your makeup. Go for something that doesn’t require a lot of effort. You can still look beautiful by sticking to the essentials: foundation, face powder, blush, eyeliner and mascara. Once these staples are on your face, do a quick swipe of eyeshadow and lip gloss to keep your pucker looking pouty for special moments under the mistletoe.

Get Seasonal

Not everyone can pull off super dramatic looks that have hints of the holiday all over them. However, if you’re one of those lucky individuals, take advantage of it. When Christmas rolls around, opt for a glittery green eyeshadow or some bold blush to look as though you just spent a day out in the cold. Don’t go overboard though; you don’t want to look like a Christmas tree!

It’s generally easier to go seasonal at Thanksgiving. Instead of opting for your light pink or light purple eyeshadow that you always wear, go for a smoky eye with some browns or even a subtle orange if you’re daring.

Drama Queen

If you’re not hosting the holidays or just happen to have some extra time on your hands with work and school closed, opt for something that’s a bit more dramatic than you’re used to. Using a dark layer of black eyeliner on the bottom inner lid, bottom lashline and top lashline can really make your eyes stand out. Be aware though that doing so might make them look slightly smaller. Add on some lengthening or voluminous mascara, along with some neutral colored eyeshadow, and you’ll have that doe eyed look that everyone falls for in practically no time at all.

It’s fun to play with makeup, but you don’t always have the time when you’re racing from work to school to the gym. Of course, the holidays can be pretty busy too. However, whether you are hosting a seven course meal at your house or you are heading out somewhere for the New Year’s Eve party of the century, holiday party makeup looks help you to stand out in the crowd.

Easy Halloween Costumes and Makeup

Kids anticipate Halloween every year. With pumpkin picking, costume wearing, and trick or treating to look forward to, what’s not to like? Adults enjoy fall and Halloween festivities as well. There is no need to spend a lot of money or to purchase any type of special effect items. There are many simple and fashionable costume ideas that you can create using normal items that you already own.

cowgirl look halloween

One easy to assemble idea is the cowboy/cowgirl costume. Put on your best leather boots, your favorite jeans, and a plaid shirt in flattering colors. Add a cowboy/cowgirl hat, some bright lipstick, and your friendliest smile, and you are set!

Another costume idea is to dress up as Mary Poppins. She is a very pretty and popular character. Be sure to pin your hair up, and to bring a parasol or umbrella from home. Wear a shirt that is either white, lacy, or satiny. Pair it with a skirt and white gloves. Also wear heals, fancy boots, or high heeled boots.
If you have a brown vest and boots, you may want to dress as a safari guide. You could bring binoculars, and wear hair and makeup as normal. If your children have a jungle breed of stuffed animal, bring that along as well.

Remember Pippi Longstocking? She is another costume idea that is easy to achieve with at home materials. Wear your hair in two braids. You can cut floral wire or a clothes hanger to achieve Pippi’s braids straight out to the side look. Apply fake freckles by using your eyebrow or eyeliner pencil. Match various patterns, such as wearing knee socks from two different sets, or pairing a jumper of one color with a striped shirt of two other colors. Smile, and have fun!

You could also create a Dorothy look. Wear white ankle socks with red shoes. Wear a white shirt with a blue skirt or jumper. Style your hair into two ponytails and tie ribbons around the base of the ponytails. Carry a basket.

Halloween is a festive time of year. There are plenty of tasteful and fun costume ideas for adults to create. Have a fantastic time creating your look and enjoying the season!
