My Lip Stuff: Lip Balm in 400 Flavors
July 7, 2008
I used to think 31 flavors of ice cream was a lot. Now there are 400 flavors of lip balm! My Lip Stuff makes natural balms in just about every flavor imaginable. I gave a few a try, including a couple of odd ones.
On the odd side, jalapeno was rather interesting. It didn’t really taste much like the pepper, but it did impart a bit of pepper type burn. So it made me think of it as a plumping balm. I didn’t really see plumping from it, but it had that tingle.
Equally odd was Champagne. This one did not taste like champagne, and I’m not sure what it tasted like, but it had a strange flavor that I found odd but not really unpleasant. I likely won’t stick with the flavor though.
Chai tasted a bit like spice and I liked it quite a bit. I also liked the Cranberry balm that I ordered.
And then there were my favorites: Cucumber Melon and Tangerine. Both had perfect flavor and got me hooked.
All of the balms are fairly medium to light in feel and do a decent job of moisturizing. The company also makes entirely vegan balms and can do custom labeling for bulk ordering if you want a whole bunch of balms of your favorite flavor with your name on it. Doesn’t everyone need a whole bunch of balms?

Ciao Bella All Natural Lip Balm

Like slip tin balms? If so, a must try is Ciao Bella Natural Lip Balm.
This balm comes in a generous sized tin and is packed with all natural oils and conditioners. Here is the ingredient list:
Prunis dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Apis mellifera (Beeswax), Ricinus communis (Palm Christi) Oil, Butyrospermun parkii (Shea) Butter, Theobroma cacao (Cocoa) Butter, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Limnanthes alba (Meadowfoam) Oil, Oenothers biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Persea americana (Avocado) Butter, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Rosa mosqueta (Rosehip) Oil, Aloe barbadensis (Aloe) Oil, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Oleoresin, Azadirachta indica (Neem) Oil, Flavor Oil
That is a lot of good oils for happy lips! More than is often seen in a single balm.
I tried a tin of the Tahitian Vanilla and found it to be quite pleasant. The balm has a great smell and taste, and is of medium heaviness. It sticks around pretty well, but is not particularly waxy. It is also available in Watermelon, Coconut, Chocolate Mint, and Lime. Yum!
Ciao Bella has what appears to be a very good offering of other all natural products, so check them out!

Hydrame Lipz, A Great Organic Lip Balm
June 9, 2008
I love, love, love lip balm! I’m also picky, picky picky, about it! For me, the perfect balm is petrolatum free, on the thicker side, and packs moisture with multiple oils. Add SPF, and I’m in heaven.

One that comes close to this is the Hydrame Lipz balm. All it lacks is SPF. This organic balm contains aloe butter, soybean oil, yellow beeswax, calendula, pharmacopeia arnica extract, golden jojoba oil, and natural tocopherols vitamin E.The balm sticks around well, thanks to the beeswax, and the aloe and oil keeps everything comfy and soft. At under $5, the price is quite nice too.
The balm is unscented and unflavored. Hydrame balm can be bought online, or take a look at their list of retail locations

Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Lipstick: Inspired by Carmindy
April 23, 2008
Sally Hansen has released an incredible new line of paraben free cosmetics, with natural ingredients. For a full blown review of the line, take a look at my feature over at Beauty and Fashion Tech. The Natural Beauty line is listed as being “inspired by” Carmindy of TLC’s show What Not to Wear and the book The Five Minute Face (read review).
I purchased a Color Comfort Lip Color
lipstick from the line and simply adore it. The texture is wonderful-very smooth and creamy. It feels great on the lips and generally leaves me left amazed that it comes from a drugstore line. It feels that luxurious and is comparable to items that are much more expensive.
The color is also just about the most perfect pink for me. So imagine my delight when I saw that the name of the shade was Perfect Pink, Rose Parfait!
I have taken to wearing it with a bit of light pink lip gloss from the M.A.C. Fafi collection over it, but it also looks quite nice worn alone.
The New Sally Hansen Natural Beauty line can be at various drugstore stores and at ULTA Beauty.

Badger Classic Lip Balms
April 11, 2008
Why is there an old picture here of me with a frog and a badger? Well, the picture is a geocaching photo taken a few years ago. The badger is because I like badgers. I also just wanted to get your attention before I rave about how great the Badger Company is!
The classic balms are USDA certified organic with the following base ingredients: Base Ingredients: Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Natural Golden Yellow Beeswax, Castor Bean Oil and extracts of Organic Aloe Vera, Rose Hip, and Organic Seabuckthorn Berry. There are seven lovely flavors, including two new ones if you had seen these before when there were only five.
The balms provide good, light moisture, and taste great. My favorites are the new pink grapefruit and the ginger lemon flavors. Also, besides just being darn good lip balms, they come in cute tubes with a badger on them!
By the way, the company itself is quite fun, with a friendly and informative website. If you like salves, be sure to also look at their various tins of skin balms (Read Beauty and Fashion Tech Review).
I have bought Badger products at my local Ulta store. They are also available at many natural foods stores and various online sources, including through the company website links above.

New Sally Hansen Natural Butter Lip Shimmer and Shine
March 21, 2008
It seems like I am writing an awful lot about Sally Hansen lately. I think in part it is because the company is coming out with a number lip products and I had not tried many of them before.
Two of the new items are the nearly all natural Sally Hansen Natural Lip Butter Shimmer and the Natural Butter Lip Shine. The Shimmer is a thin balm-like stick, that reminds me quite a bit of the Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer products. It is basically a moisturizing balm with a bit of very sheer color and shimmer. I like the stuff quite a bit, although I would prefer it in a regular sized balm.
The lip shine is a nice moisture packed gloss. If you are looking for nice treatment type of gloss, this is a great one!
Both products have a hint of fruit flavor and scent, and are packaged using environmentally friendly materials. The company states that the ingredients are 94% all natural.
