This code requires you to spend $160 or more, at which point you will receive a 10% discount. Purchases must be completed by the end of December 23, 2011, and 10am EST that same day is also the last shipping date to get items in time for Christmas using overnight delivery.

Swarovski is a great place for jewelry and collectible gifts, and you really can’t go wrong shopping there, so if you will spend enough to use the holiday code, you can save a bit and get a bunch of gifts in one place.

About a month ago I contemplated purple hair. Not a full head of purple hair, but perhaps a few purple strands in conjunction with something a bit more daring than my normal color, such as chunky red and blond highlights. Well, my husband convinced me that purple might be just a little too bold and I didn’t do it, but it did get me thinking of ways to liven up my look.

Hair color is a great way to create a new look or make a statement quickly and easily. These days, color is such an easy process, whether done at home or in a salon and, with so many great choices that gradually wash out over time, changes don’t always need to be set in stone, making a change of color fun and simple. Many products also now leave your hair looking and feeling in better condition than ever before.

Here area few ideas for a bolder hair color:

• Change your color. For example, go from brown to red or vice versa. If you stay within a level or two of your natural shade in terms of darkness and use a color that will wash out over time, there is no real risk. Going lighter is almost always bolder, but it does also require more work to achieve and maintain.
• Add highlights and lowlights. Highlights can be anything from natural looking additions of lighter hair to frame the face, to bold chunky blocks of color. Lowlights add contrast and interest to the look. I particularly love blond highlights with red lowlights. The red gives some warmth to the look. If you have dark hair, consider adding red highlights or lowlights for a more interesting look.
• Add a single bold stripe around the face. I recently saw a woman with gray hair who had added a bold red/brown stripe to her hair. It was a striking look, and it perfectly matched her overall somewhat funky style. That she added reddish brown instead of black made the look all the more interesting, since I have normally seen women use black for such a look.
• Add new color to just the underside or ends of the hair. Increasingly, women are experimenting with dramatic looks where the ends of the hair are a different color, such as red on brown hair, or the underside of the hair is a darker shade than the top. These looks can be fun and, if you don’t go more than a shade or too different from your natural level, you can use a semi-permanent color that will wash out over time in order to lessen the risk or easily change the look again later.

I ended up changing my highlights to something bolder. As for that purple, I decide to look into buying some pre-dyed strands that I could pin in. I like bold, but perhaps purple is just a bit too bold for my current everyday lifestyle!
