Luna Twilight DuWop Lip Venom

the Luna Twilight Makeup Collection has some interesting items with neat packaging. One that really intrigued me was the Luna Twilight Duwop Lip Venom, so I eagerly went out to Nordstrom to see it and fully planned to buy it if I liked it. I ended up coming home empty handed.

The idea of the Twilight Lip Venom is that there is lip stain at the bottom and clear plumper at the top. In theory, you dip the the applicator into the bottom for stain, only in the top for clear plumper, or shake it up to get both. That is it in theory. I had a hard time getting it to work well in practice. When I tried to just get stain, I still ended up with oily plumper as well that washed the stain away. When I shook it up, I had better results, but the stain still sat on top of the plumper, making it hard to get an even stained look. Here it is on my hand which, unfortunately, was as even as I could get it. This is taken outside in natural light after it dried.

I ended up disappointed, in part perhaps because I had such high hopes for this product. The overall shade of the stain is nice, but I don’t want to battle with a product to get an even color application. You can get a more even look with a standard lip stain. Then, if you want plumping, add regular Lip Venom or your other favorite plumper over it.

Luna Twilight Makeup Lip Products

Available October 22, 2009, and now available for preorder, the Luna Twilight Makeup Collection offers some great packaging for fans of the Twilight series of books and movies by Stephanie Meyers.

I definitely plan to get the staining lip balm. Who wouldn’t want color, conditioning, and natural sun protection all in one? And, of course, the package is nice.

I particularly like the art on the lip gloss.

This special edition of DuWop Lip Venom also is quite interesting and is something I am eager to try. The top layer is clear DuWop lip pluming oil and the bottom is a rich red lip stain. The products can be used separately depending on where you dip the applicator, or it can be shaken to use both at once for a plumping lip stain with shine—fascinating!

Luscious Lips Manual Lip Plumper

OK, here is an interesting, if not a bit odd, product. Luscious Lips is a manual lip plumper.

You actually use this device to manually plump your lips. Here is what the company says about it:

Luscious Lips is a lip pump that increases blood flow to the mouth. The device creates a vacuum seal around the mouth in order to bring fluid into the lips. A few pumps a day will leave your lips smoother, firmer, and up to 50% larger.

To use:
Simply tilt your head back and place the Luscious Lips device over your mouth. Hold the device firmly, and suck out all of the air to create the vacuum. Then, gently pull the outer cylinder slowly, and you will begin to feel your lips pull into the cylinder. Hold for a few seconds and then release and repeat until you reach the desired plump.

The company cautions that beginners must start with a 2 week conditioning process to allow their lips and mouth to gradually build up the tissues in the mouth.

I gave it a try and definitely recommend that slower start. It doesn’t feel like the device is doing much when in use, but you can feel it after! As for seeing plumping, from the get go I did see some that would last for a hour or more after each use. The cream that comes with the deluxe set is also kind of nice. It isn’t a balm. It is a regular cream that absorbs nicely and leave the lips quite soft.

Luscious Lips retails for $49.95. The Deluxe Kit is $59.95 and includes the moisturizing cream.

Lipstick Queen Big Bang Theory Illusion Gloss

If you was serious color payoff, Lipstick Queen products are the way to go. Lipstick lovers rave about the lip stick shades, and now the line welcomes Big Bang Theory – Illusion Gloss to the collection.

This gloss aims at using the right ratio of shimmer to shine to create the illusion of plumper lips (it is not an actual lip plumper) and is available in the following eight shades:

Prana Plumping Diva Lips

I love lip plumpers, but it is no secret that I think most of them don’t really work. I just still love them because I like the bit of tingling sensation that they give and many of them are still really nice glosses. Well, once in awhile one comes along that actually seems to work too, and then I get really impressed.

Prana Plumping Diva Lips gloss has a particularly strong sensation to it, and when I tried it I did get some actual visible plumping from it that lasted for a decent amount of time.

Here is a bit on it from the company literature:

Vitamin-based stimulants enhance circulation and produce the lush fullness. Collagen-enhancing Centella Asiatica helps lip stay naturally plump, instead of thinning with age – a nice long-term improvement. Overall, the gloss from this one is also quite nice. It is very shiny and there is no stickiness. The addition of sunscreen is also a nice touch. I don’t have a photo of this one, but it is a fairly standard sized tube with a sponge applicator. Diva Lips runs at $36 for a .23 oz tube at the Prana website.
