MAC Tendertones

June 23, 2008

TenderTones_glosses_72This summer, MAC brings back its limited edition Tendertones  lip balms. If buy just one limited edition lip item this year, I recommend that it be one of these!Tendertones are pot lip balms with SPF 12. The balm is on the glossy side, with a bit of tint and a moisturizing, glossy sheen. They taste terrific too–we are talking seriously terrific here!

I like to think of these as more of a pot gloss than a balm, but with all of the benefits a lip balm can provide. That makes them perfect for wearing out on summer days when SPF is ideal, but you want your lips to show some shine and color.

Grab a few Tendertones while you can, otherwise you could end up like I did last year: missing out and wishing in hindsight that you had bought some!

Murad Energizing Pomegranate Lip Protector, It Just Might Be The Best Gloss Ever!

June 6, 2008

Murad Energizing Pomegranate Lip Protector, SPF 15Warning: This is what happens when I write about a product that will easily make my year’s best products list immediately after trying it. Actually, make that my best products ever list!

Important, wonderful, product link: Murad Energizing Pomegranate Lip Therapy SPF 15

Important Commentary: Wow! Wow, wow, wow! Looooooove it! If you buy only one flavored gloss this year, make it this one! BEST GlOSS EVER! Yummy, pretty, glossy, SPF protection!

Whew! OK, I got the main points out of my system, now let’s discuss this product. Murad has managed to create everything I want in a lip gloss. EVERYTHING! OK, so I’m still raving a bit…..

The Murad Energizing Pomegranate Lip Protector is a tube gloss with a delicate light pink tint. It gives a perfect glossy shine, with absolutely no stickiness; it tastes and smells incredible; it moisturizes as well as any other conditioning gloss or balm that I have tried, and; most importantly, it includes SPF 15.

In case you missed it, concerns were recently raised that lip gloss use increases your skin cancer risk, because a gloss sheen might intensify the sun’s effects. Thus, SPF in or under your gloss becomes even more important. I would still rave about this wonderful gloss even if didn’t have SPF, but that addition puts it over the top into my category of best ever products.
From the product literature:

As seen in InStyle April 2008.Revitalize and protect dry, dehydrated lips, improving texture, restoring suppleness and fighting free radicals. Pomegranate extract and UVA/UVB sunscreens provide powerful antioxidant protection. Salicylic acid gently exfoliates to reveal supple lips. Shea butter and jojoba esters condition and intensely hydrate.

So this one, conditions, exfoliates (I love the addition of salicylic acid), protects, and manages to look and taste great all in one. It is genius. The only downside is the cost. This one is a bit pricey, although not horribly high based on comparable higher end products.

I bought my Murad gloss at an ULTA Beauty store, but it can also be found online at the link above or you can comparison shop for Murad lip products at Shopzilla. There are some mini special edition keychain versions out there at decent prices.

Seriously: The best gloss of the year, or maybe the decade. Possibly even all time.

Garden Botanika Lip Scrub, Happy Scrubby Goodness!

June 4, 2008

Garden Botanika Lip ScrubLips can benefit from a scrub just like the rest of your skin. One gentle way to go about it is with something like the Garden Botanika Lip Scrub.

This moisturizing scrub contains avocado oil and jojoba seed powder. The scrubbing action from it is slight, which is really all the lips need, and boy does it packs moisture! I love the feel of this one, but I have to admit that I would like a bit more scrubbing action, simply because I am one of those who would over do it with scrubs if I let myself.

Garden Botanika recommends that it be followed with their Vitamin E Stick, which I also happily recommend. If you haven’t tried a vitamin E stick before, you should! They are great general conditioners.

Garden Botanika is available at ULTA Beauty, or you can comparison shop for Garden Botanika at Shopzilla.

Go Smile Smileceuticals Balm

May 19, 2008

“Smileceutical.” That is quite the word!

Equally interesting is the GO SMILE Smileceuticals Balm from the company that puts out specialty teeth whiting and tooth care products. This conditioning balm with retinol for long term treatment has a pretty good fan base.  The cool tone to it also should make the teeth appear whiter. Or so some say….

Personally, I kind of like the packaging, but $18, I haven’t quite wanted to try it yet.

Estee Lauder Lip Conditioner

March 31, 2008

Estee Lauder lip conditioner Estee Lauder Lip Conditioner, with Shea Butter, Vitamins C and E, and SPF 15, has a nice ingredient list for a basic conditioning balm.

Vitamin E conditioners such as this one also tend to work well under lipstick or in place or a regular lip balm.

The Estee Lauder version has the bonus of being packaged in an attractive tube. I have always liked the classic Estee Lauder  gold packaging.

MAC Strobe Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15

March 24, 2008

MAC Cosmetics Strobe Tinted Lip Conditioner M.A.C. Strobe Tinted Lip Conditioner is a re-release of a product M.A.C. put out several years ago. I distinctly remember it, because while I loved the feel of the lip conditioner and the pretty tints that it came in, it had a bit of an off taste for me. Basically, it had that heavy lipstick taste that you sometimes get with cheap brands. So the last time around, I used up the tube that I bought, but kept wishing that M.A.C. would fix taste.

Well, here it is again. So when a couple of samples arrived for me from M.A.C., I quickly opened them up hoping for the same thing as last time minus the odd taste.

It still tastes the same.

Now to be fair, I am not seeing a lot of other people complaining about the taste (but I haven’t really looked very hard either). So maybe it is just me. Other than that, it is a delightful item. It feel nice, it protects and conditions, and the tint is just enough to be seen, but not enough to feel like you just put on a coat of lipstick.

I just wish it tasted better…….
