CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain

stain I’m a big fan of lip stain. It gives a more natural look and usually lasts longer than other lip colors. I picked up a CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain months ago and then forgot to write about it, which is surprising considering that I rather like it! icon

Outlast lip stain is a stain in a tube with a tip comparable to a felt tip pen. The design makes applying the stain quite easy, which no concerns about getting stain outside of the lip line—something that is rather important with a stain considering that they tend to dry quickly. What I particularly like about CoverGirl’s stain is the multitude of colors available.  Unlike other brands that has only one or two shades, there is something for everyone in the Outlast line.

The downside to this particular stain, however, is that it does not last quite as long as my other favorites (Benefit’s Benetint, Revlon, and MAC). But it is quite affordable and does wear long enough to keep me happy. I love that I have it in a pink shade.

Because it is a stain it can feels drying, so be sure to apply gloss or balm over it.

Lorac Sheer Wash Voile Transparent

Lorac Sheer Wash Lip and Cheek Stain Lorac Sheer Wash icon is a rollerball lip and cheek stain. The coverage is sheer and it has great lasting power. The color is a rosy berry shade that is pretty much universally flattering. I prefer stains that come with a rollerball over a brush. They are more portable and are easy to apply.

I love lip tints because they tend to give a more natural look and the color lasts for quite some time. To use a lip tint such as this one, apply a light layer and let it dry. Color can be built up by applying several coats of stain. Top it with a clear or tinted gloss.

The stain can also be used on the cheeks for a natural flushed look.  When using it on your cheeks, be sure to blend quickly before it dries!

Pixi Cosmetics Lip Blush

Pixi Cosmetics a division of Petra Cosmetics, have recently become available in target stores and I grabbed a few items to try. Among them was the interesting Pixi Lip Blush.

Pixi Lip Blush

I label this one interesting because it really is lip stain packaged in a felt tip pen. I tried the shade Youth, which is a lovely light pink. The pen makes application a breeze. Heck, with the fairly pointed tip, you can even line your lips with this thing! I also loved the shade.  A swatch is below:

I found that the lip blush lasted very well, and it worked particularly well as a stain underneath a sheer lip color or gloss.  One other thing of note on the Pixi Lip Blush is that it comes in multiple shades. Many of the popular stains tend to come in one dark rose shade, so having alternatives is rather nice.

Look for Pixi Cosmetics at Target stores or online.

MAC Cosmetics Lustre Twins

M.A.C. Cosmetics has managed to create a long wearing lip product that I actually like! I’m generally not a fan of long wear items because they tend to be very dry, get grainy easily, and really don’t last near as long as advertised. M.A.C. has managed to fix some of those issues with their Lustre Twins collection.

Lustre Twins consist of two interchangeable parts. One part is a heavy and long wearing lip stain, while the other is a gloss to top it. The pieces click together, kind of like the Meet Mark products do, so you can pair different glosses from the line with different stains. The shades are also quite pretty. I tried several of them, which are swatched below:

I found that I got a good 4 hours of wear from the Lustre Twins, even when drinking a can of soda, if applied properly—something that is very important in order to have success with this product.  For proper application, start with clean and dry lips. Apply the stain and let it dry completely. This takes about 2 minutes. Failure to allow it to dry, or applying it over another lip product will generally turn it into a peeling mess. Once dry, apply and reapply gloss as needed.

When I tested the Lustre Twins, I found them to be quite comfortable as long as I reapplied gloss, and the shades were much better than some other long wear items that I have tried.   The Ripe and Ready shade paired with the Pink Virtue gloss has become a regular item in my purse (which also has about 10 other lip items in it at any given time).

BTW, the stain stayed on my arm for over 24 hours because scrubbing and rubbing alcohol would not remove it. So yes, this stuff can really stick around! However, it sticks less time to the lips than it does to an arm, which is probably a good thing!

Revlon Creme de la Chrome Lipgloss

Revlon Creme de la Chrome Lip GlossRevlon is usually my top recommendation for consistently good drugstore brand lip products. Revlon Creme de la Chrome Liquid Lipcolor is yet another nice offering.

I tried Creme de la Chrome in the shade Plum Appeal, which is a deep plum/red. The shade was a bit dark for my pale skin, but still was quite lovely. In the deep shades, this gloss acts almost as a stain. I found that I could apply it, wipe it off, and be left with nicely stained lips. So that dark shade can work for me after all!

The gloss is high shine with a very nice shimmery, luminous effect. It isn’t frosty or overly shimmery– instead it sort of just glows. I love it and plan to try it out in some lighter shades!
