Revlon Creme de la Chrome Lipgloss

May 21, 2008

Revlon Creme de la Chrome Lip GlossRevlon is usually my top recommendation for consistently good drugstore brand lip products. Revlon Creme de la Chrome Liquid Lipcolor is yet another nice offering.

I tried Creme de la Chrome in the shade Plum Appeal, which is a deep plum/red. The shade was a bit dark for my pale skin, but still was quite lovely. In the deep shades, this gloss acts almost as a stain. I found that I could apply it, wipe it off, and be left with nicely stained lips. So that dark shade can work for me after all!

The gloss is high shine with a very nice shimmery, luminous effect. It isn’t frosty or overly shimmery– instead it sort of just glows. I love it and plan to try it out in some lighter shades!

Stila Cherry Crush Lip and Cheek Stain

May 9, 2008

I have a full review of this over at Beauty and Fashion Tech. But I wanted to repost the picture here for those who might search on Girl Gloss for information on Stila Cherry Crush.

The picture below is taken in sunlight and shows the stain applied both thickly and thinly:

Basically, I love it–both the shade and the packaging are nice. You can see the full review at the link above.

theBalm Stainiac, Tinted Lip and Cheek Stain

May 5, 2008

The Balm Stainiac If you like lip and cheek stains, such a Benefit Benetint (read Beauty and Fahsion Tech review), then you definitely should take a look at theBalm Stainiac Tinted Gel Blush. I recently purchased one in the shade Prom Queen and love it!

The Stain works quite well on the lips and gives a light rose tint that is very similar to Benetint, but perhaps a bit lighter. I found that it builds in color fine, so if you want a bit darker shade, simply apply a bit extra, allowing it to dry in between applications.

The Stainiac tint also seemed to last longer for me than other tints that I have tried. I drank several cans of pop while wearing it and the color stayed just fine. The stain also works quite well as a rose pink blush. On the lips, it looks extra nice with a clear or light pink gloss over it.

The best part about theBalm Staniac though is the price. At $14.99, it is much cheaper than many of the other popular stains that are out there!

PowderPuff Beauty You Glow Girl Lip and Cheek Palette

January 7, 2008

I recently tried out some lip and cheek products from PowderPuff Beauty, a line created by Los Angeles based makeup artist Nidia Alire. Using colors and pigments created for the industry makeup artist, yet also friendly to the casual user, the line fits in cute refillable palettes.

PowderPuff Sqaud You Glow Girl Palette
I was quite impressed with the items that I tried. I received a 4 pan palette with two Double Agent Creme Lip/Cheek Pigments and two lip glosses that compose the You Glow Girl Set. The palette is made of a thick coated cardboard that has a magnetic closure and magnetic pan holder. Each pan is good sized and is removable. The lip gloss shades were gorgeous and gave a nice medium gloss tint.

The dual agent items in the palette particularly impressed me. These lip and cheek pigments work both as a creme blush and as a lipstick/lip stain. They are well pigmented and fairly buildable, so you can start sheer and go deeper as desired. I found warming the pigment a bit on my hand or fingers before putting it on the cheeks helped it blend best.  I used a standard lip brush for applying them on my lips. Try them on your lips with a bit of the gloss on top for a great base color and shine!

At prices around $12-14 per pan, these quality items are a pretty good value. Plus the case is darn cute!

Benefit makes some great lip products. For a set, I recommend the following: benetint is the ultimate in lip stain. It gives the lips a perfect flushed berry red look that appears natural on almost everyone. It also can be used a great cheek stain.

The cupid’s bow lip shaping set (pictured) is a unique pencil set for highlighting and shaping. Finally, d’finer d’liner clear lip liner is a great lip liner. I absolutely love mine!

The Joy of Gold Lip Gloss

December 10, 2007

benefit gold lip glossSilver and gold, silver and gold….

I am a sucker for gold lip gloss. I like it alone for a bit of sparkle and I love it over lipstick for some added depth. Mix it with another gloss, and it adds a new dimension! The same can be done with silver gloss, but gold looks so much better on most people and mixes better with most colors.

This 24k sexy gold lip gloss is ideal. Plus the packaging is so pretty.

Another one of my favorite uses of this and other gold glosses (psst…Revlon makes a great one) is to pair it up with Benefit’s benetint. The Benetint stains the lips nicely and then the gloss adds a shimmer that also helps the stain last longer. For a drug store version, check out Revlon Just Bitten. I prefer Benetint, but have also been very pleased with Just Bitten, which is about half the cost.

There are many great gold glosses out there. Interested in more? Comparison shop for gold lip gloss.
