O.P.I. Lip Colour
Boy is this one hard to find online! I picked up an OPI Lip Colour from the France Collection at my local ULTA Beauty store and found a really nice lipstick!
OPI is known for their nail lacquers, but they also make some lip items, and they do them well. The Lip Colour lipsticks are creamy sheer shades that are rather versatile and uniformly flattering. This is good, because as far as I can tell, there are only a few shades available for each collection!
The lipstick is on the moisturizing side, and it lasts pretty well too. In general, it is joy to wear.
Each OPI lip colour has by a matching lip pencil, which I didn’t try.
Look for these at your local beauty specialty store or anywhere that carries the full OPI line.

Mark Hookups: Glow Baby Glow and Mini Mark it Stick
Mark Cosmetics (a division of Avon) have a fun line of items called hookups. These are cosmetics that hook together into pairs for easy carrying. I gave a couple of lip items a try.
Glow Baby Glo is a lovely, non-sticky, sheer, gloss. It comes in a variety of shades and has a faintly mint smell and taste. Nice stuff, especially for the price of $5!
I “hooked” my gloss to a Mini Mark it Stick, which is basically a fat, soft lip pencil/crayon. Like many of the lip crayons, this can be used for full color and it does a nice job of providing sheer tint to the entire lip area. I found the berry shade to be quite nice for everyday use.
Hooked together, they area a perfect pair! I color my lips with the pencil and then add a touch of gloss. And it all fits neatly into a small clutch! I love it!

Maybelline Line Stylist Lip Liner
Maybelline has a pretty good soft lip liner at a nice price: The Maybelline Line Stylist.
This is a very slimline liner–one of the thinnest I have seen. The tip does a good job at giving a thin line, or a bit thicker with a bit of pressure. It is also nice an soft, but doesn’t smear.
Oh, and the color lasts extemely well. What more can you ask for?
Well…. there is one small issue with it, and we’re talkin tiny here–really not a huge concern to me at least. The packing is such that you turn it to click it up out of the tube. If you click too far, there doesn’t seem to be a reverse function. So proceed slowly!

High End Product Substitution: Sonia Kashuk Velvety Matte Lip Crayon
It is no secret that I love the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. But I realize that it is out of some reader’s price range. For a very similar item, take a look at the Sonia Kashuk Velvety Matte Lip Crayon, which is almost a dead ringer for the Nars pencil. The Crayon was part of the new Spring 2008 collection and runs at around $7.
Below is a swatch of the Nars Dolce Velvet Matte Pencil and a Sonia Kashuk Lip Crayon in Velvety Nude. As you can see, the shades are very similar. Nars is on the left and Sonia Kashuk is on the right:
The Sonia Kashuk pencil goes on creamy and thick. Like the Nars pencil, it can be used both to color and to line, but I find it most effective as an all over color that is followed by lipstick and/or gloss.
