Once again, the summer is drawing near, and so it is the perfect time to start thinking about beachwear. This article will review this summer’s top 5 beachwear designers and their collections.
Jets by Jessika Allen
Jessika Allen is an Australian fashion designer who has always been very sure of where she wanted her career to go. She graduated with a first class degree in Fashion and Textiles, and went on to do a postgraduate course in Milan, where she specialised in tailoring. She first started designing body suits, and then went on to create swimwear that has been described as timeless, elegant and innovative. It is not surprising that A-list celebrities like Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett have chosen her designs for their beach holidays.
The Jets collection for 2012 features several one-piece swimming suits, which are Allen’s favourite pieces. These are tailored to create a perfect hourglass silhouette and to highlight feminine curves. The theme for her 2012 collection is The Journey. The classique and lustre collections are always highly sought after for their timeless elegance, and body honing shape and support. New for 2012 are chic new animal print bikinis and swimsuits called Instinct, with new sundrenched colours of Scarlett, azure and watermelon.
Seafolly has been in the swimwear market for thirty-seven years. The brand represents the Australian way of life at its best, evident in the colours and designs of their pieces. Their “High Summer” collection branches out from designer swimwear to encompass other fantastic designs, perfect for a beach holiday.
Seafolly’s summer 2012 collection is inspired by the 50s pin up, with stunning balconette shapes, overblown florals and Hollywood cut swimsuits for some full on glamour. Also featured are bold animal prints such as the Safari and Skin Deep ranges of swimsuits, bikinis and beach coverups.
Colourful halter tops combined with skirted hipster bottoms, bustier bras, Brazilian bottoms, gorgeous bandeau tops, and tie-side hipster bottoms – are some of their big looks for 2012. Seafolly’s hot colours for 2012 are Apple green, coral, violet and lemon and pale pink.
Melissa Odabash is a former catwalk and swimwear model. In the early 2000s, Odabash designed her first bikinis and sold them to some Italian boutiques. Retailers were impressed by how much Odabash’s bikinis represented Italian style, and from then on, her creations have been a success. She has designed collections for Speedo, Victoria’s Secret, and television shows. A-list celebrities including Beyonce, Halle Berry, and Elle MacPherson – are well known fans of Odabash’s stunning swimwear.
Her collection for 2012 sees her best selling bikinis, Paris and Brussels updated with new accessories and colours. Melissa Odabash is renowned for her animal print swimwear with cheetah and crocodile prints introduced for 2012 with gorgeous silk dresses to match. Odabash kaftans and beach dresses are always in demand for their laid back luxury. Chic broderie anglaise maxi dresses and white embroidered kaftans along with sky blue, coral and yellow coverups turn heads poolside around the world.
Monika Hornbostel is Anika’s swimwear creator. The Brazilian-based designer is renowned for her carefully handcrafted bikinis, which feature embellishments made of mother-of-pearl, opal, and quartz. Brazilians take their bikini wearing quite seriously, so the esteem with which the industry holds Anika swimwear is testament to their quality.
Many of this summer’s pieces are highly versatile, and can be worn in up to 4 different ways. Bikini tops are supportive yet stylish; while the bottoms fit perfectly at the hip to enhance female curves.
Ondademar (Spanish for “sea wave”) is a Colombian brand created 10 years ago. Its origins are undeniable, since a Latin-Caribbean joie de vivre is evident in every single piece. Their two piece summer 2012 collection looks and feels as luxurious as it gets. There is an Ondademar bikini for every occasion and body type. And as for the colours, they are as vibrant, yet well chosen as anything out there. Odademar certainly have looks to watch out for this summer.
While there are many other brands around, the popularity of these five give a sense of what rude health the designer swimwear industry is in.
